SPROTBROUGH AND CUSWORTH: Doncaster Parish #40 of 43

Welcome back to the West of Doncaster. Today sees us complete the entire West of the Borough with the largest parish this side of the town centre. I’ve been putting this one off for a long time, and I really could not have picked a better day to do this in actual fact. The sun was shining, the mood was good, everything looks great, and I even had a new idea I tried out for the first time. This one consists of three main parts. First, there’s the old village which sits on the River Don which is where we begin, walking on yet another stretch of the good old Trans Pennine Trail yet again. This bit passes a pub that was hit really badly by flooding a few years ago, but I am happy to tell you it is in fact open for business again. Then we have Newton and the area known as “Town End”. This parish stretches for three miles from the centre of the old village almost into Doncaster town centre, stopping short of North Bridge where you can pick up the main road into town. The vast majority of that area is housing estate though, and the old village has so much more to see, and so much more history. The third area is a mix of both, and you can split it into two parts. Another old village which has the original site of one of Doncaster’s most historic halls, and then a vast expanse of housing estate that links it to Scawsby along the border with the parish of Brodsworth. Lots to see in this place, so much so that I invented a new way to show you things…if you’re intrigued, have yourself a watch of this video for the parish of SPROTBROUGH AND CUSWORTH. **** My name is Andy.
