The new hydropower stations will be built to bridge the gap between supply and demand for power. This new project will also help in the development of India's north-eastern state. But today, China has opposed the plan. In an official statement, China said, "South Tibet is China's territory". China has termed the Indian state Arunachal Pradesh as 'South Tibet'. In recent years, China has stepped up its claims on the Indian state - which have no basis in history or backing of the international community.
