Email [email protected] or message us on Instagram @claymontfirecompany13 Early Sunday morning, the first due box alarm with entrapment was struck for 27000 Valley Run Drive. Command 13 (Deputy 13 Harris) and 13-5 responded. While responding, communications reported a fire on 3rd floor possibly the left side of the building. Deputy 13 arrived to report a 7 story high rise with fire showing from the 3rd floor. Engine 13-5 (Tanzella) went on location as FDE with our their own hydrant in front of the building. Crews went in service immediately with high rise racks utilizing stand pipe Driver of 13-5 established a water supply and made the connection with the stand pipe. Deputy 13 asked which units were on the street and communications advised it was only 13-5 and L25. At that time command asked to replace the 1st alarm with staffed units and start the 2nd alarm. Second alarm companies were to stage at carpenter plaza shopping center. A few mins later 13-5 nozzle man encountered low pressure on stand pipe, later finding out that 13 of 14 stand pipe connections in B and D stair wells had caps missing and were opened in both stair wells in the building which didn’t allow 13-5 to have pressure to fight the fire. This was addressed by 2 Claymont members and fixed quickly and allowed 13-5 to finally get pressure and extinguish the fire the attack team minimize the fire by controlling the room of origin door and apt door until standpipe was secured and they had enough pressure in line. Fire was kept to apartment of origin. A total 12 residents was removed by crews, 7 were evaluated by EMS and 2 were transported to hospital for evaluation. The incident was under control in 50 minutes with the 2nd alarm companies were never utilized. Situation was handled by 53 fire personnel 16 EMS, 1 rehab unit 2 FM’s. Units on scene were NCC 13,11,25,16,17,18,14,22. Delaware county 17,39,40,61,68,pa3.
