However, a series of FISH AT teams and various technicals are already on the hills waiting for them. Federation Regional Command North learned far too late about the dangers of complacency. In order to ease logistical strains, aerial units were directed to fly a simple, mostly linear patrol route over major roads and other points of interest. In the months before the December 11th incident, FISH soldiers had already taken notice of this route, beginning to deploy 12.7mm HMGs and stationary anti-tank emplacements near the helicopters' patrol paths in attempts to shoot them down, but regional command ignored concerns from deployed units, stating that FISH militants did not have armaments capable of shooting down friendly helicopters. Their concerns were validated on December 11, when FISH soldiers, armed with Hawk-sourced IGLA anti-aircraft missile launchers, shot down two Tiger attack helicopters of the 114th Air Attack Battalion, resulting in the death of one of the pilots.
