Myrtle Beach Weekend is usually a difficult, exciting, crazy weekend for ALL OF US with 3 different venues filled with dancers to work with!! We each taught over 7 classes to all these amazing students, barely slept, and I at the time was deathly Ill with constant Fevers and what we later found out to be the Dangue Fever Virus (I had contracted in Jamaica a week before this work trip). I am not even sure how I taught or danced, but dance FUELS THE BODY!! Dance truly gives me such incredible Joy and I am lucky to share it with so many amazing students, parents, teachers, and my talented coworkers. A very special thank you to all my Boss, coworkers and the ones who pulled through to dance with me in this video (their info below). Thank you to everyone who helped me throughout the weekend with getting medicine and assisting, loving and helping take care of me!!! Can you tell I am sick? -- Dance is literally medicine to my soul!! THE WHY: It's Super Bowl time and I am thrilled to see Shakira do her thing today. Shakira has helped pave the way for Fusion Dance and Bellydance, being culturally open since I was a little girl. She has been someone that has helped make Bellydance mainstream and acceptable to those who think poorly of the dance. She has allowed women to feel gorgeous and sexy inside and out and her confidence is alluring and captivating. Women do not need permission to feel these things but unfortunately in our society many women do not feel allowed to be beautiful etc, I find this incredibly sad. It is my personally mission to show and help cultivate confidence, a better body image and respect for our bodies and our heats to those I have the privilege to teach and or cross paths with. This dance Raqs Sharqi is a body loving art form and I am grateful for people like Shakira and women like my Mother who are openminded, truthful, confident and display their Goddess Vibes with respect and Joy! If you want to know what "Whenever, Wherever" is really about just do a little google search dive into the deep-end... the content is endless, confusing, ridiculous, and amazing. Basically long distance relationships with anyone you care about are hard and beautiful. Me and my coworkers are very close friends who all live in different places, some near, some far, we are all soo different but have a deep running strong love and connection for and through dance and each other. I liked the concept and joy in song and it's as simple as that for me. I chose this song because it's iconic. The original song written in Spanish is much more eloquent and not as odd as this english version, but this is what brought Shakira to the US, and that is amazing in itself.
