Spatial Mapping – The Future of Personalised Medicine

Journey through the intricate world of precision medicine, where the quest for truly personalised treatment unfolds before your eyes. Narrated by Michel Itel, a lung cancer patient, alongside Professor John Fraser and Dr Arutha Kulasinghe, this short 3D animated video is a story of scientific and technological breakthroughs, hope and collaboration. For three years, Wesley Research Institute’s Queensland Spatial Biology Centre Scientific Director Dr Arutha Kulasinghe has aimed to produce this educational piece that bridges the gap between patients, doctors, technology and science. Using groundbreaking tissue mapping technology, it is now possible to see molecular changes in tumours, cell-by-cell, directly on tumour biopsy material. This is the ‘google maps’ approach for understanding how cells communicate. This 3D animation video highlights the potential of spatial biology to revolutionise how we understand, treat and navigate through complex diseases like lung cancer. It is dedicated to everyone involved in the battle against cancer and lung disease — from the patients and their families to the clinicians and scientists at the bleeding-edge of discovery and translational research. At Wesley Research Institute’s Queensland Spatial Biology Centre we are mapping the future of personalised medicine, one disease, one organ and one cell at a time.
