The administrative structure at universities and colleges can be confusing, and who to go to for specific information or situations can be unclear. This session will introduce the roles of higher education administrators such as presidents, provosts, vice presidents, deans, and department chairs. Speakers will discuss who the decision makers are at institutions of higher education, how administrators’ work relates directly to students, and how to engage these individuals for support during your academic career. Panelists: Celina Chatman Nelson, PhD, Senior Associate Dean of Academic Diversity and Professional Development, Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, Columbia University; John Ivy, MS, Program Coordinator for Recruitment and Undergraduate Programs, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Learner (IDEAL) Research, University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine; Joseph Lewis, PhD, Associate Dean for Access, Diversity, and Inclusion, Princeton Graduate School, Princeton University; Candace Rypisi, EdD, Assistant Vice Provost and Director of Student-Faculty Programs, CalTech; and William Wittels, PhD, Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, Graduate School, Brown University.
