How to Remove a Welded Exhaust DB KILLER | BMW R NineT

DB Killers may serve a purpose, but NOT IN THIS HOUSE! So today, I show you how to remove a welded-in dB Killer from a Motorcycle Exhaust. This improves flow and sound. My two favorite things. This video is short and sweet. In my BMW R Nine T introduction video I explained that the OEM Akrapovic exhaust was far too quiet. A simple fix is removing the welded dB killers from the pipe or simply swap the exhaust. Since I like the looks of the pipe, I just wanted to see if this would improve the sound. Drilling through stainless steel isn't what I would call a good time. You need STRONG bits and patience. The carbide drill bits weren't doing the job, so I picked up some blue spider bits that worked much better. The key is to step up from a small to larger size for a cleaner job and be patient. I tapped a starting point with a hammer and screw and began drilling. Spot welds are tricky because they may be bigger than you think. The 1/4 bit did the job. Regardless of the motorcycle, I do recommend a slide hammer for pulling a db killer. While they are expensive, picking up a cheap one in a dent pulling kit was the way to go. So hopefully this video is helpful in giving your bike more sound and more fun!
