It is based on a movie of the same name, and is the sequel to the original Star Wars for the NES. After the game was completed, the developers were occupied with making JVC's Super Star Wars for the Super NES, so a corresponding NES sequel covering the film Return of the Jedi was never developed, nor released. The Game Boy port was developed by NMS Software and published by Capcom, but was reprinted and distributed by several publishers over the course of three years.
