Nerve injury of the upper extremity - Everything You Need To Know - Dr. Nabil Ebraheim

Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes the major peripheral nerves of the upper extremity. The upper extremity contains neumerous nerves that transmit signals for functions such as muscle contraction, reflexes and sensation. - The Radial nerve: • Motor test: wrist extension, thumb extension. • Sensory innervation of the skin: upper arm and forearm • The superficial radial nerve is a sensory nerve supplying the majority of the dorsum of the hand. • Sensation test: dorsal web space between the thumb and the index finger. - The Ulnar nerve: • Motor test: the ulnar nerve: the little finger abduction. • Palmar: The ulnar nerve provides palmar and dorsal sensory innervation to the little finger and half of the ring finger. • Dorsal: sensation test: distal ulnar aspect of the little finger. - The Median nerve: • Motor test: thumb pinch, opposition of thumb, abduction of thumb. • The median nerve innervates the skin on the palmar side of the thumb, the index finger, the middle finger, and half of the ring finger. • Sensation test: distal radial aspect of the index finger. - Axillary nerve: • Motor test: shoulder abduction (deltoid muscle). • The axillary nerve supplies the deltoid muscle, giving sensation over the shoulder area. • Sensation test: lateral arm: deltoid patch on the upper arm. - Musculocutaneous nerve: • This nerve is the primary nerve supply to these three muscles: coracobrachialis, brachialis, and the biceps muscle. • Motor test: elbow flexion (biceps muscle). - Lateral antenrachial cutaneous nerve: • Motor test: lateral forearm.
