Fresnel Lens removal from 52" RCA Projection TV

After placing an ad on Craigs list for broken projection TV's, I received a reply and picked one up. Here is a video of me removing the Fresnel lens as well as the mirror and 3 high quality lenses. The mirror is really a highly reflective film on a piece of rigid wood and not glass but I took it out as one piece rather than peeling it off. It only took about 10 minutes to remove the fresnel lense and the rest of the time was spent taking out the other pieces. I put the lens back in the original holder and was able to burn cardboard and wood on a cold winter day. Too cold outside to do much more or try to focus better. A word of caution though, even poorly focused, this lens can get you seeing spots quickly and damage your eyes. I bought a pair of welding gogles that I wear when working with something this bright and powerful. This lens is about the equivalent of a 13-foot diameter magnifying glass.....but much lighter and more portable.....and not a toy. The mirror is great at reflecting the sun into poorly lighted areas and the result is dazzling. More experiments to follow including solar cooker and evaporator to create clean, drinkable water out of pond water.
