Controversial Civil War General Nathan Bedford Forrest Remains Moved; Millar Disputes Forrest Lore

On June 11, 2021 a press conference was held announcing that the bodies of Civil War General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife had been removed on June 7, 2021 from his tomb underneath his statue in the Health Sciences Park in Memphis, Tennessee. The statue was removed in 2017 after years of controversy, piquing with the Black Lives Matter movement. Following the press conference, Lee Milar a Sons of Confederate Veterans spokesman and Forrest family member disputes much of what is generally known and believed about Forrest, including his relationship with the KKK and his attitudes towards the Blacks in his time. He cites accounts in the local newspapers and an 1871 investigation by the U.S. Congress as his sources. The statue will be reassembled and his remains interred in Columbia, Tennessee at the National Confederate Museum at a later date.
