I am making my third sowing of potatoes today. I will be sowing purple caribe potatoes in large containers. Purple Caribe are one of my favourite potatoes. They are purple skinned with creamy white flesh. Purple Caribe potatoes are early maturing so they make a quick turn around from planting to harvest. These potatoes also tend to be very high yielding. I find I don't get as large of yields when growing potatoes in containers, but it is still a good option if your in ground space is limited. Growing in containers also means you can move the pots around to get the best growing conditions or to protect plants from early frosts or storms. I will show give youapvice to get the most from your container grown potatoes as well as show you a trick to pre starting seed potatoes while you wait for garden space to become available. I grow flowers and vegetables in Saskatchewan, Canada. My cold hardiness zone is zone 4. I have an average of 110 frost free growing days each year. The past few years have seen our temperatures go as low as -37C (-34.6F) to as high as 37C (98.6F). Come see what and how I grow in these conditions.
