We use the Past Continuous tense when a long and continuous action in the past was interrupted by a different, short action. 2:28 EXPLAINED! Past Perfect Continuous Grammar E.g. It had been raining when I left the house. We use the Past Perfect Continuous when the long and continuous action in the past stops BEFORE the short action happens.
