For this Thai Poosam Kavadi, Thirtana sings a Tiruppugazh for the Great One holding the Shakti Vel. Aged 10 and passionate about singing, Thirtana Ponnusami is a disciple of Smt. S.Aishwarya (Great Granddaughter of Bharat Ratna M.S.Subbulakshmi, Granddaughter of Sangeetha Rathnakara Dr. Radha Viswanathan; torch bearer of the MS and Radha Legacy). Her first music video, Maithreem Bhajatha, has garnered praise and affection from a large number of fans in Mauritius and worldwide. * * * * * * * * * Mutthai Tharu Arunagirinathar introduces Lord Deivayanikaanthan as the Lord of Deivayanai, the one who flashes His brilliant white teeth in a divine smile. He is Lord Velavan holding the Shakti Vel, the one who bestows mukti (liberation) on His followers. He also recalls the story of how Lord Krishna, who acted as Arjuna's charioteer during the Kurukshetra war in the Mahabharatam, had a fondness for Lord Maal Marugan. Lord Vishnu, the One with the complexion of emerald green and the color of the sky, loves him very much. The poet begs Lord Subramanya to be merciful and to shield him. The sentimental tone of the song then gives way to one of bravery and valor in the second part while the battle between Lord Muruga and Soorapadman is described in detail. Bhairavi's (Kali Amman) anklets tinkled in time with Thithithaya's meter as she danced wildly, swaying in all Thisaigal (eight directions). In the the final stanza Arunagirinathar describes the manner in which the hostile demons were killed in masses, how the all-powerful Maha Senatipati battled for the Devas and shattered mountain Krounchamalai (which served as Soorapadman and his brothers' stronghold) into pieces. Arunagiranathar wrote this Tiruppugazh in such a skillful way that the listener is even able to visualize the intensity of the struggle between Lord Skanda and Soorapadman.
