How to Use a Kyusu: A Traditional Japanese Teapot【Moving Japan】

If you are a Japanese green tea lover, you may want to try using a Kyusu. A Kyusu is a traditional Japanese teapot mainly used for brewing green tea. And its sturdy clay walls are the best when it comes to maintaining the flavors of Japanese green teas. Have you heard of Furoshiki? This beautiful Japanese wrapping cloth was trationally used to transport clothes, gifts or simply to decorate a gift. And it is still loved by many people around the world because of its versatility and eco-friendliness. So today, we will show you how to wrap a box, a bottle, and a watermelon with Furoshiki. First, but tea leaves into the Kyusu, we recommend 1 tablespoon for making 2 cups of tea. Next, prepare the hot water, for most types of green tea, the water temperature should be around 90 degrees Celsius. About 200ml of hot water should be enough for two cups of tea. Let the tea infuse for about a minute and try not to move it around. While pouring the tea, alternate between cups so that tea leaves are not all poured into one. Make sure to pour every last drop. Tea brewed in clay teapots is said to have a sweeter, richer flavor. Try different variations in order to explore the unique flavor of each combination!
