Space 1999 Eagle Digital Reconstruction for "Eagle Obsession"

I’m excited to share my latest 3D model render of the iconic Eagle from Space 1999. This project was a labor of love, aiming to capture the grandeur and the intricate detail of the original miniature model while bringing it to life and scale of a real-world ship. This model was also created for the upcoming documentary by Future Dude Entertainment called “The Eagle Obsession, a Jeffrey Morris Film”. Tools & Techniques: Modeling: The model was meticulously crafted in 3ds Max, ensuring every detail from the original design was faithfully reproduced, I used a physical model of my own, original high-res pictures of the original miniature, and multiple books and online resources such as the Space 1999 Catacombs. Texturing: I used Substance Painter for texturing, which allowed me to achieve a high level of detail and realism. My goal with texturing is to tell a story, to do this I textured the Eagle in a way that captures the essence of a miniature, adding subtle weathering and wear to give it a sense of history and scale. I wanted it to feel like it was taken right off the original set or your bookshelf and scaled up to massive proportions. Rendering: Leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5 (UE5), I utilized nanite to handle the complex geometry efficiently. Path tracing and real-time rendering were employed to achieve highly realistic lighting and shadows, bringing out the fine details of the model, as well as speeding up workflow for final lighting and texturing. Real-Time Rendering: With UE5's real-time rendering capabilities, in addition to fast final renders, I could visualize the model in various environments and lighting conditions, ensuring it looks stunning from every angle. UDIMS: UDIMS allowed for high-resolution texturing across the entire model, ensuring no loss of detail; even in close-up shots. My primary aim with this project was to create a model that feels imposing and large, yet retains the charm and meticulous detail of the original miniatures used in the show. The result is a highly detailed and textured render that pays homage to the classic design while utilizing modern techniques to bring it to life. Feel free to share your thoughts and feedback!
