In this video, I had shown how to simulate flow over vehicles. I had also shown the procedure to calculate the drag co-efficient in Fluent. The three-dimensional car geometry has been created in space-claim, you can find a link to the tutorial below. The velocity of the car is considered 100 km/hr (27.27 m/s). Inlet velocity boundary condition has been assign. The hydraulic diameter of inlet can be calculated by: Hydraulic diameter=4 x Inlet area/Perimeter =4 x (2x5) / (14) =2.85 m The drag coefficient is calculated based on the projected area of the car/vehicle. In this tutorial projected area of the car is calculated by: Projected area= height x width = 1.7 x 2 = 3.4 m2 The k-e turbulent model used to simulate this problem. Finally, pressure, velocity and turbulent intensity have been calculated with the help of contours. The recirculation zone can be estimated by pathline. Drag force and drag co-efficient has been calculated from report values.
