[JAPAN FOOD GUIDE] Unboxing Japan's Most Eco-Friendly Bento (Touge no Kamameshi)!

Location & bento info below 👇 We’re acting as your local Japan food guides and trying Japan’s most famous environmentally friendly “ekiben” bento lunchbox for the first time in the great outdoors! It’s so good, that it even has the royal seal of approval from the Emperor of Japan! In today's travel vlog, we're in Gunma Prefecture, just over 2 hours away from the ekiben heaven of Tokyo Station, to eat, listen to some of the prefectures many “melody line” musical roads, and pay a visit to the onsen that inspired Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away bathhouse! #外国人の反応 #bento #japanculture WHO ARE OSHAREJAPAN? 🚐 Hi! Think: giant record player, where your car is the needle! There are over 30 of these special Melody Line roads spread across Japan, recreating tunes from popular anime, music, and nursery rhymes, and they are often used to promote road safety, as the tune can only be heard when driving at the indicated speed limit. The two we show in the video play “Sweetly Sings the Donkey (Itsy Bitsy Spider)” and “Always with Me” (the theme song to the anime movie Spirited Away), fitting for our final location of the real life Spirited Away bathhouse! ____________________________________________________ 📍 BENTO RESTAURANT Bento from: Touge-no-Kamameshi Hompo Oginoya, Takasaki Shop / 峠の釜めし販売店舗 高崎売店 🍱 What is "Ekiben"? Ekiben are the delicious love child of “eki” (the Japanese for “train station”) and “bento” (Japanese lunchboxes) filled with local delicacies! About the restaurant Oginoya started as a humble bento store at Yokokawa Station in Gunma in 1885, but it changed the world of ekiben forever in 1958, when it first started serving its hot “Touge-no-kamameshi” (mountain pass kettle rice porridge). Now, with over 170 million sold, it is one of the most popular bentos in Japan! Oginoya’s “kama” (clay pot) sets it apart from all other bento in the country as not only does it keep food warmer for longer, it also makes a great souvenir of your trip to Gunma! Invented as a way to make locals happy with warm, homey meals on the train (bento was typically cold before Oginoya released its kamameshi bento), it’s easy to understand why these cute kettle rice bowls became one Japan’s best-selling lunches and why there are now branches all over Japan, including 6 just in Tokyo alone! What to eat We ordered Oginoya’s signature Touge-no-Kamameshi Bento Lunch Box which comes in a clay pot “kama”. The kame pots can be reused again and again and the Oginoya website even provides recipe ideas for your new kitchenware! Don’t want to collect containers, but want to try the bento for yourself? You can also opt for an eco-friendly sugarcane pulp container at participating stores! Got a sweet tooth? Oginoya also sells original traditional Japanese sweets, such as mochi and dorayaki (Japanese filled pancakes) and fluffy Japanese souffles for afters! ____________________________________________________ 📍 OTHER LOCATIONS Views: Lake Haruna & Mount Haruna Fuji / 榛名湖 & 榛名山 Shimagawa Dam and Lake Okushima / 奥四万湖 & 四万川ダム Spirited Away bathhouse at Sekizenkan Kashoutei, Shima Onsen / 四万温泉 積善館(せきぜんかん) ____________________________________________________ 🎬 VLOG CHAPTERS 0:00 Buying the bento at Touge-no-Kamameshi Hompo Oginoya, Takasaki Shop 1:16 Melody Line musical road 1:46 Driving in Initial D anime location (Mt.
