Where Old Boats Die - A Visit To Bowling Harbour

A wander around Bowling's old harbour to glimpse the wrecks of up to 14 boats and ships that lie rusting and rotting in the water. Bowling sits on the banks of the River Clyde, or the Firth of Clyde, not far from Glasgow, between Clydebank and Dumbarton. The harbour is located where the Forth & Clyde Canal meets the River Clyde, with older parts going back to 1810. It was designed as a harbour where boats entering or leaving the Forth & Clyde Canal could dock either before or after their journey through the canal. Further to recent improvements by the Scottish Canals authority, Bowling Harbour and the immediate surrounding area, including Bowling's historic viaduct, has been transformed into a tourist hotspot that has information panels and tremendous views over the harbour and the Firth of Clyde. And on a day as beautiful as this, it is quite simply stunning and very much worth a visit. Visitors can get a train to Bowling from Glasgow, or walk from Clydebank along the old towpath of the Forth & Clyde Canal to the harbour and a wonderful linear park.
