Recently, a subscriber sent me a direct message on Instagram and asked what they should look for in a post-bacc program for their gap year before applying to dental school. I decided to make a video highlighting some of the important features of a strong postbacc program, and I asked some of my classmates who are current medical students what their thoughts were too! I think some important things to look for in a post-bacc program are: - What kinds of courses are they offering? Do these courses represent a professional school curriculum? Do these courses satisfy and pre-requisites I may be missing? - Where are the alumni from this program now? Is this program known for getting students into medical school, dental school, pharmacy school, or whichever professional school I'm looking to attend? - Is there a linkage program available, where I could apply and be automatically considered/accepted to the school's associated professional school? If you're new to the channel, my name is Eli and I am a 3rd year dental student at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. I attended the University of Maryland, College Park for undergrad, and I did a post-bacc program at George Mason and Georgetown Universities, called G Squared. On my channel I vlog my dental school journey as well as make videos for pre-dental students who want advice on getting into dental school. I didn't have the easiest journey to dental school, and a unique story, as I was interested in medical school for 2 years after graduating before switching to dental.
