Science Fair 2021: NHS Scientist Training Programme Talk and Q&A

This is a recording from a live, online talk as part of the Science Fair which took place on Wednesday 27 October 2021. Original event description: “Clinical scientist training programme in the NHS - The Scientist Training Programme (STP) is a 3-year programme of work-based learning in an NHS Hospital, supported by a fully-funded University accredited masters degree. The biochemistry STP training officer for Greater Glasgow & Clyde, a second year clinical biochemistry STP (NHS Scotland) and a second year clinical genomics STP (NHS England) will provide you with an insight into the training and career of a clinical scientist within the NHS.” Meet the presenters: Lucy Miller, Trainee Clinical Biochemist, NHS Lucy is a 2nd year STP specialising in Clinical Biochemistry in NHS Lothian. She is an alumna of University of Glasgow, graduating with an undergraduate degree in 2019 and postgraduate masters in 2020. Laura Weir, Trainee Healthcare Scientist (Genomics), Newcastle Genetics Laboratory Laura is a Trainee Healthcare Scientist in Genomics. She is currently based within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NHS England) and has just started her second year of the Scientist Training Programme. Prior to this Laura studied at the University of Glasgow, completing her undergraduate degree in Genetics as well as her master’s degree in Medical Genetics and Genomics. Susan Johnston, Principal clinical biochemist, NHS Susan has been an NHS clinical scientist since 2001 and is currently the Greater Glasgow and Clyde STP training officer.
