A walk through of the rebuild of a front hub including hub bearing adjustment and drive shaft end float, on a Land Rover Defender, manufactured from 1998 onwards . . . . . , SHOW MORE for Torque settings. Although this video tutorial is specific to a 1998-on Defender, the principle is the same for many 4x4 vehicles. In this video we replace the Hub, Calliper and Brake pads. Carrying out adjustments and checks to: Hub Bearing Load Adjustment Drive shaft End Float And finally bleeding the brakes (pipe and jar method) Torque figures: Hub Nut, 1. Torque to 23 lbf ft (30 Nm) then spin the hub to settle the bearings. 2. Final torque to 148 - 163 lbf ft (200 - 220 Nm) , spin and then measure end float. 3. If adjusting and replacing shim spacers repeat the above process.
