Daniel Rumler – Concerto for Bass Guitar and String Orchestra, 1st mvt. "Rhapsody"

The piece by Daniel Rumler is brand new: it was commissioned by Camerata Zürich in 2023. The young composer and violinist, who has also worked with the Camerata Zürich and has already arranged several works for string orchestra for us, has created his "Concerto for Bass Guitar and String Orchestra" according to the classical pattern with two fast outer movements and a slow middle movement. He notes: "The riffs of the electric bass guitar, which originate from funk, are combined with various musical elements, most of which belong to the era of the first half of the 20th century. The passages improvised by the electric bass guitar, but always accompanied by the string orchestra, give the soloist space to come up with his own ideas. On the other hand, at certain points throughout the piece there is also a change of role, with the electric bass establishing itself in the orchestral texture in order to support the musical flow in this way." Premiered and recorded in Zurich in September 2023 with the support of the Slovak Arts Council.
