It likely dates to the early 1950s, but post-1952 as the Convair CV-340, which entered Hawaiian service in 1952, is featured. The film opens with the blue waters rushing against jagged rocks (:09). It was presented by Hawaiian Airlines (:16) and photographed by Norman Schley (:33). Schley was a filmmaker from Wisconsin whose company Picturelogue produced a series of travel films. Actor George Marr narrates (:40), hula dances swing their skirts on screen (:47). Coconuts are zoomed in on (:52). One surfer takes to the waters of Waikiki Beach in Oahu, Honolulu (:56). Schley is pictured with his camera and wife, Ruth (1:05). Modern metropolitan (1:27) and residential sections. Vacationers relax with Pacific waters behind them (1:39). An extinct volcano near Waikiki Beach’s Diamond Head (2:03). Kodak Hawaii’s hula show follows (2:07). A twin hull catamaran bobs in blue waters (4:14). Tourists hop onto a rented outrigger canoe (4:36). Hanauma Bay (5:09) sits on the southeast coast of O’ahu. Natural coves and pools encourage vacationers to relax (5:22). A vehicle moves up the highway for Nu’uanu Pali (5:38) and the massive green valley is pictured afterwards (5:47). The Diamond Head is pictured in the distance around suburban Honolulu (5:52). Locals work on a drag net for fishing (6:06). They are also pictured preparing for a feast (6:31) and helping to drag in the massive catch (6:52). This is referred to as community fishing. The pig for the feast roasts in tea leaves (7:05) and is covered with sugar cane stalks (7:12). Islanders ready themselves around a long table (7:17). Two men prepare to go spear fishing (7:28). Their colorful catches are drug up (7:36). One of the fish is shown to be a colorful parrot fish (7:50). The Hawaiian airport appears (7:57) hosting 44 passenger Convair 340’s (7:57). The plane takes travelers to the garden island of Kauai (8:24). Alcoholic refreshments are set out in a colorful montage (9:04). Within a banana grove, the yellow fruit is shown to grow upside down (9:14). Spouting Horn; a blowhole on the southern coast of the island, was created by volcanic eruptions (9:29). Waimea Canyon is Hawaii’s Grand Canyon (9:47). Kalalau Valley follows (10:06). A vehicle takes tourists towards Hanalei Bay (10:22). A waterfall erupts on Bali Hai (10:34). The largest industry here is sugar cane (10:47). A tractor (10:53). Cattle mill through green fields (11:33). The famed Fern Grotto (11:41) is explored. An abacus is used to total a bill (12:05). Parker Ranch, second largest cattle ranch in the USA (22:35). Waimea lettuce grows in neat rows (22:43). A pineapple plantation (22:34). A car moves down the popular King Street (23:54).
