Police Brace for More Violence in San Ignacio/Santa Elena After Gang Leader's Death

Police in San Ignacio/Santa Elena are bracing for more gang violence after gang leader David Galindo died this weekend. As we reported, Galindo was shot several times in the abdomen on June 1. He was initially transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital and later transferred to the Western Regional Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. Galindo was no stranger to the police. He was the leader of a local gang in Cayo, whose members terrorized several medical professionals the night he was shot. Police say a group of persons arrived at the San Ignacio Community Hospital following Galindo’s arrival and threatened several doctors and nurses. The men reportedly forced their way into the trauma room where Galindo was being treated and behaved belligerently.
