Abandoned Clinton - Sherman AFB Turned Spaceport

This abandoned facility had it's start in 1943 as a Naval Air Station. Following the war it closed down and the city of Clinton maintained control of the base. With the start up of the Cold War the U.S. Air Force started leasing the base from Clinton in 1954. It then operated as a bomber and refueling base until 1969. There are various parts of the base that are used by different businesses and government entities. One of the more interesting things that it is being used as is the Oklahoma Spaceport. The purpose of this program is to facilitate space travel for civilians thru companies who want to invest in that business. Their goal is to become the nations leading spot for such a program.
