Climate Change: We Can Eat Our Way Out of This Mess! | Gillian Flies | TEDxCollingwood

CLIMATE CHANGE. In this inspiring talk, Gillian Flies will change your view on carbon and climate change, and open your eyes to what we are doing wrong, and how we can fix it when it comes to farming. It's kind of a big deal, and you will be captivated from the onset. For 12 years, Gillian and her husband have owned and operated a small-scale, organic farm that supplies some of the best restaurants in Canada. She sits, among others at the forefront of the good food movement in Canada. Gillian's talk explores the current agricultural model's role in climate change and the exciting opportunity for agriculture, through regenerative practices, to be part of the solution. Gillian is full of passion and the desire to make a difference, and she believes from the bottom of her heart that we can Eat Our Way Out of This Mess!! After growing up on a sheep farm in rural Vermont, Gillian Flies launched a career that took her to the far ends of the earth, working as a teacher, human rights investigator, democracy advocate and management consultant in more than a dozen countries. In 2003 she and her husband abandoned successful careers in Toronto, packed up their two young children, and moved to a run-down farm outside Creemore, Ontario. Since then, she has built The New Farm into a thriving business and a leading light in the good food movement, providing vegetables to some of the best restaurants in Canada and raising over a million dollars to make local, organic food accessible in low income communities. Gillian has saved as a director of a number of prominent food corporations, and is currently a broad member of the Canadian Organic Growers. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
