From 3D Sonic Fangame To Indie Passion Project - Rollin' Rascal Kickstarter Demo & Multiplayer

Rollin' Rascal Kickstarter page (demo is available on Steam): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/... Sonic fans, man... remember SAGE 2021 when this indie game went by the name of Project Rascal? Well, it's back with a Kickstarter campaign alongside being published under the banner of Curiomatic. But what does it have to do with Sonic fangames? Remember Sonic GT, a really innovative 3D Sonic fangame with a heavy emphasis on momentum and rolling physics, you know the stuff more skeptical Sonic fans have been clamoring for so long? Well, Rollin' Rascal is made by the same devs. And the influences of Sonic GT really show in this demo. Rollin' Rascal feels literally made for Sonic Adventure fans, even more so than Spark The Electric Jester 3 (I'm sorry, but I have to make some comparisons). The game, at least in the demo, feels specifically built with the physics and heavy use of momentum in mind, as well as a lot of interactive level elements, all for you to master and keep a flow state of high speed platforming and mechanical mastery, something Sonic games have been trying to accomplish for years, with varrying degrees of success. That said, the demo isn't flawless. Levels for all their openness still feel a bit confusing (especially the multiplayer ones) for first time play, as well as some unintentional camera issues that can really ruin your run once you get rolling. This is still a demo so these issues might be ironed out in the meantime. That said, I think the multiplayer levels are the highlight as these put an even greater emphasis on momentum usage and mechanical mastery and really sells the vision the guys at Curiomatic have for this game. I'm curious how they handle later levels and difficulty progression in the full game, as well as what other levels themes and obstacles they have in store. Spark The Electric Jester 3, really nailed the difficulty progression IMO and showcased that levels can feel complex while still being "linear", because open level design can be a tricky thing to handle in a high speed platformer.
