Bridging Gaps - A Path to High Quality Respiratory Care for Canadians Living with Asthma

Join Jeffrey Beach, President & CEO of Asthma Canada, Dr. Susan Waserman, Chair of Asthma Canada's Medical & Scientific Advisory Committee, Susan Balkovec, RRT, Member of the Medical & Scientific Advisory Committee, and Josh Rheaume - asthma patient and advocate, to explore the recommendations of the Canadian Delphi Consensus study on optimal referral and management practices for severe asthma, and to address the critical issues of asthma. With over 4 million Canadians living with asthma, the healthcare system faces challenges in providing adequate care, especially for those with severe and uncontrolled asthma. Long wait times for specialist appointments and a lack of support for asthma management from allied health professionals are key issues faced in the community. In this panel discussion, the focus is on the vital need for enhanced education in patients, families and healthcare professionals, early identification, and advocacy. Practical recommendations, including insights from the Delphi study, are discussed to strengthen the roles of respiratory therapists and certified educators, addressing these challenges.
