DeLorean Spotlight on ECTO88! Ernest Cline, the writer of the hit book Ready Player One and producer/writer of the movie adaptation of the same name, has always had a cool DeLorean "ECTO88". Last year he took his 1982 DMC-12 to the Time Machine-building pros at DMC California for completion of a replica of the same DeLorean that Parzival drove in Ready Player One. This version is more accurate to the book version however, as opposed to the movie version, which lends more to the A-Car from Back to the Future part 1 (with the exception of the ability to go "hover mode" in certain situations). The movie car still retained KITT's front scan bar (called the Anamorphic Equalizer) from Knight Rider, but lacked the steering wheel. The movie car is also not referred to as "ECTO88" like it is in the book and instead of the personalized ECTO88 license plate, the movie car's plate reads "PARZIVAL". It's been said that licensing issues with Ghostbusters limited Parzival's DMC-12 in the movie adaptation....you can't have it all -- and certainly the book contained many more references to pop culture than the movie could probably have afforded. At any rate, this is the "real-deal" DeLorean DMC-12 from Ready Player One -- the Book -- and the inclusion of Mr. Fusion (absent from the movie car) let's everyone know this car has a full hover conversion like the book car did (well, not really but you get what we mean). This is probably one of the better Time Machines to have been built, ever. Amazingly clean and well-appointed, a true work of art!
