Erik Estrada sworn in as reserve officer in Idaho

ST. ANTHONY -- The St. Anthony Police Department is the future home of Idaho's newest Internet Crimes Against Children task force -- and it has the backing of the TV celebrity. St. Anthony Mayor Neils Thueson swore in "ChiPs" star Erik Estrada as a reserve police officer Saturday, July 2, as well as his teammate, retired police officer Daryl Williams. Estrada flew into east Idaho on Friday and spent the weekend getting familiar with the Saint Anthony Police Department. Following Estrada's swearing in, he traveled to South Fremont High School for a meet-and-greet with community members. Estrada's visit to Idaho highlighted the start of the new task force, whose focus is protecting and education children to prevent them from becoming the victims of crimes originating through the internet. "We are going to help provide equipment and software to Chief Harris and the police department," Estrada told EastIdahoNews.com. "Chief Harris picked up the baton on this project. Once I met him, I knew his department was the one." Estrada and Williams have sponsors to help finance the project but continue to look for more. Both plan to return to Idaho regularly as the task force builds.
