PASINAYA 2014 - Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group "Solotan (Maranao Suite)"

This video records Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group's "authentic and well-researched" presentation of "Solotan (Maranao Suite)" at Pasinaya 2014 last March 16, 2014. Special thanks to the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group (ROFG). Synopsis: Enthronement Ritual Similar to the rituals of sultanate in Brunei and Malaysia, "Solotan (Maranao Suite)" presents the enthronement process and components of the Lanao sultanate. Rituals, festivities (games) and dances (singkil) form part of the proclamation process. Lanao has 4 sultanates that are represented in the enthronement ritual. Reigning Sultans are invited to participate in the rites for the new Sultan. The presentation of the "Kris (sword)" signifies the formal installation of the Sultan. The video begins with the game Sepak Takraw and ends with the Singkil performance by the children of the new Sultan.
