Ancient Grain Measure?

Here I show my preliminary work on a theory that what is currently classified as a 4,000-year-old drainpipe is actually a 4,000-year-old grain measuring tool. We don't really know what the metric equivalent of ancient Mesopotamian volume measures are, but we have a general idea. And I can certainly show that this object was not a drainpipe, even though it was found beneath a temple floor. Mathematically calculating the volume of the cylinder can be done, but it isn't an exact cylinder. The interior diameter fluctuates, making the calculation difficult. So, I'm going to fill the pipe with barley and measure it that way. I run into various troubles along the way and my experiment is definitely not without its inaccuracies, but I come up with a result that is interesting nonetheless. I'm currently working on a scholarly article with more research into this idea and I hope to have that published sometime in the next year, but I thought I'd show part of the work in progress now. You can see this clay cylinder on display in the Penn Museum Middle East Galleries.
