Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt: “Unveiling the Greats"

Number of Pharaohs, Order of Pharaohs, Most Important Pharaohs, The last pharaoh of Egypt. Number of Pharaohs: Ancient Egypt had approximately 170 pharaohs who ruled over the Egyptian empire from 3100 BCE until 30 BCE when Egypt became part of the Roman Empire12. Order of Pharaohs: The pharaohs are ordered chronologically, and their reigns are divided into periods known as dynasties. There are roughly 32 pharaonic dynasties. The three main periods of Egyptian history are the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom1. Most Important Pharaohs: Some of the most important pharaohs in ancient Egypt include: Narmer (Menes): Believed to be the first pharaoh to unite Upper and Lower Egypt3. Djoser: Known for building the Step Pyramid, the first colossal stone building, and the earliest colossal sculpture of Egypt4. Snefru: He built the first true pyramid and changed the orientation of the funerary complex to east-west5. Khufu (Cheops): Known for constructing the Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World5. Hatshepsut: The most successful female pharaoh who initiated countless construction projects and established routes for foreign trade4. Thutmose III: Known as the “Napoleon of Egypt,” he had a wide list of accomplishments and military achievements4. Tutankhamun (King Tut): Known for his nearly intact tomb discovered in 19226. Ramses II (Ramses the Great): Often regarded as the greatest, most celebrated, and most powerful pharaoh of the New Kingdom. Cleopatra VII: The last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. Please note that the dates and order of the pharaohs can vary based on different sources and new archaeological findings. The last pharaoh of Egypt was Cleopatra VII. She was a woman and belonged to the Ptolemaic family. She ascended to the throne at the age of 18 along with her husband and brother, Ptolemy XIII. After her death and the defeat of her forces against Octavian (later known as Augustus), Egypt became a province of Rome, marking the end of the rule of the pharaohs. However, if you’re referring to the last pharaoh of a specific dynasty, for example, the 26th Dynasty, the last pharaoh was Psamético III. His reign was from 526 to 525 B.C. It’s important to note that the term “pharaoh” is often used to refer to all ancient Egyptian kings, even though the term was not used until the New Kingdom3. The list of pharaohs is extensive and spans over 3000 years
