A Strong Storm System Hits San Jose, CA With Damaging Winds (2-4-‎2024)

A potent storm batters San Jose, CA with damaging winds. Winds were coming in from the south and started to pick up the evening prior. By sunup on Sunday, my area was witnessing almost 'tropical storm' conditions with sideways rain and fierce winds. I even felt the house shake a tad with the highest gusts! Winds began to shift from SSE to SW during the late afternoon and finally calmed down overnight, with leftover lingering rain showers. Talk about stormy weather for us here! Footage taken from around San Jose, CA on Sunday, ‎February ‎4, ‎2024... *Weather scenario\update: A potent February storm system brought damaging and deadly winds to the San Francisco Bay Area. More than ten zones monitored closely by forecasters had hurricane-force gusts on Sunday! At Pablo Point in Marin County, wind speeds topped 100 mph! The storm was being driven by a powerful low-pressure system that was strengthening as it approached the Bay Area. The pressure was quickly dropping in the center of the storm, a process scientifically known as “cyclogenesis,” which quickly strengthens the low-pressure system. The storm had reached its peak strength late Sunday afternoon. Downpours were possible thru Sunday morning & into the afternoon. Strong southerly winds gusting up to 60-80 mph were possible thru 8 p.m. before subsiding by Monday. The storm was expected to slowly weaken after 10 p.m. Sunday's atmospheric river storm was certainly the Bay Area's strongest storm since 2010. The worst of the storm was over by Monday morning... As for the rain: The Bay Area’s wettest locations recorded more than 8 inches of rain in the series of storms from Wednesday, Jan. 31 - Monday, Feb. 5. For most areas, close to half the precip came from Saturday night to early Monday. The Evergreen area: the last 5 days accumulating 3.07 inches, (and during the potent system of Saturday-Monday: 1.42)! Certainly, it looks like we were finally feeling the effects of the El Niño!
