Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf Longplay (Amiga) [QHD]

Developed and published by Electronic Arts in 1993 A 16-bit classic whichever way you look at it, the original Sega Genesis version of Desert Strike was a great game, but the Amiga version upped the ante with better graphics, better audio, and even bigger explosions! It's a rare thing when the Amiga delivers a better experience than the consoles, but Desert Strike bucks the trend. No, it's not as fast or as smooth, but the flight model and physics are more dynamic, offering a greater sense of momentum, and it plays brilliantly! If you want the best possible experience, play it on an AGA machine, like the A1200. It's never going to offer silky-smooth scrolling because it's not been designed that way, but the 14 Mhz 68020 CPU makes for a much more consistent experience. As for the longplay, I recorded this on an A500 OCS configuration for authenticity; the game was designed for OCS/ECS machines, so that's the the config I went with. When I recorded my original Desert Strike longplay back in 2016, I made a huge problem for myself by using the map. The developers rendered the game and map screens in totally different positions, which made it a total nightmare when it came to cropping the video; rather than have massive black borders everywhere, it took me about 3 days to go through all the footage, crop and reposition it. It wasn't until after I'd recorded the game I realised it would have been so much simpler to avoid using the map at all, so when it came to recording this 1440p update, that's exactly what I did! I check the map once at the start of each mission to show the objectives and briefings, but then complete the rest of the mission without using the map; I did make an exception in mission 4, because you're objectives are drip-fed over the course of the mission, but even so, it made preparing the final video infinitely easier this time around, shaving 30 minutes off the run time.
