Amy Chua - Political Tribalism and Identity Politics

Amy Chua is the John M. Duff Professor of Law at Yale Law School and the author of several books, including her most recent: Political Tribes: Group Instinct and the Fate of Nations. Chua is also the author of World on Fire: How Exporting Free Market Democracy Breeds Ethnic Hatred and Global Instability; Day of Empire: How Hyperpowers Rise to Global Dominance — and Why They Fall; Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother; and co-author of The Triple Package: Three Unlikely Traits Explain the Rise and Fall of Cultural Groups. Chua began her career by clerking on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit for Chief Judge Patricia M. Wald. Chua practiced for four years with the Wall Street firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, where she worked on international transactions throughout Asia, Europe, and Latin America. In 1994, she joined the Duke University Faculty of Law. She joined the Yale Law School faculty in 2001. In 2011, Chua was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people, one of the Atlantic Monthly's Brave Thinkers, and one of Foreign Policy's Global Thinkers. She also received the Yale Law School's "Best Teaching" award. Chua is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where she was executive editor of the Harvard Law Review.
