Jung Bahadur concluded a treaty with the East India Company. In the Sepoy Mutiny 1857 Jung Bahadur himself led the three regiments on 10 December 1857 and suppressed the nationalists at Gorakhpur and Lucknow. After the end of the sepoy mutiny, on 1st November 1860, the British government gave the region of Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, and Kanchanpur, the western part of Nepal.
