Making Sustainable Biofabrics from Seaweed | Science Project

Can you imagine clothing, handbags, or shoes made from seaweed? Seaweed biofabrics are just one of the new materials the textile industry is trying in an effort to engineer more eco-friendly fabrics. In this video, we will show you how to make biofabric from alginate, a powder extracted from seaweed. See how our fabrics turned out, and then try your own. The possibilities are endless! Step-by-step written instructions and recipes are available on the Science Buddies website: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/scienc... The procedure for making the alginate-based biofabrics was adapted from Fabricademy under CC By-NC 4.0. Valuable input was provided by Anastasia Pistofidou, the Fabricademy co-founder. A kit with the alginate and other specialty materials is available here: https://www.homesciencetools.com/prod... You can find more information on how to test some of the mechanical properties of your biofabrics in this video:    • How to Test the Strength of a Biofabr...  . Science Buddies also hosts a library of instructions for over 1,500 other hands-on science projects, lesson plans, and fun activities for K-12 parents, students, and teachers!
