Aaron Chacon on Tarcoles Fish Cooperative (Costa Rica) and why he works there as a youth

Aaron Chacon of Coope Tarcoles, a fishing cooperative on the west coast of Costa Rica, active since 1985. Son of the former president of the cooperative, Aaron decided to continue his family heritage, as also use his education and technical skills to help manage the financial and administrative aspects of the cooperative. He talks of the struggles against the government's proposals to extend protected area donation into the sea, and other threats to their livelihoods. Interview by Ashish Kothari at Tarcoles, 25.6.2024. Aaron Chacón, de Coope Tarcoles, una cooperativa pesquera de la costa occidental de Costa Rica, activa desde 1985. Hijo del antiguo presidente de la cooperativa, Aarón decidió continuar la herencia familiar, además de utilizar su formación y conocimientos técnicos para ayudar a gestionar los aspectos financieros y administrativos de la cooperativa. Habla de las luchas contra las propuestas del gobierno de extender la area de protección hasta el mar, y de otras amenazas a sus medios de subsistencia.
