The new brass door knobs don't have an internal spring and the existing tubular latch is barely strong enough to operate without the bolt getting stuck. So I was interested to see that Ironmongery Direct https://goo.gl/h1svBU sell a heavy duty tubular latch. The slight problem is that the old tubular latch had a non-standard backset size of 72mm, and so the closest I could get to that was an 82mm backset. So the hollow core door would need a bit of filling and modifying to accommodate the new tubular latch.
