Hunter's Notes: ------------------------------------------------------ Matrix ----------------------------------------------------------------- Pre-FOTM cut SBD (shnid=165179): Recording info: SBD Cassette Master > DAT > AIF via Anon Mastered by Jim Blackwood Speed/pitch adjusted by Jason Chastain Track, FLAC, and pack by Steve Gravel Highlights originally aired on 91.3 FM KXCI Tucson on Dead Air, hosted by Jim Blackwood on June 25, 2023 https://spinitron.com/KXCI/pl/1754331... Originally shared to www.shnflac.net in July 2023 [7/22/23] Notes: - Source ID 128746 (Mason B. Taylor) provides a few brief patches. - Brief digital crackles in 'Space'. 16 bit 44.1 kHz FLAC Level 8 [This source shifts to a lesser quality transfer or source after a cut in Fire On The Mountain. The patch of Mason's tape here in FOTM repeats 0m34s of the song. The first part of Scarlet Fire before the cut was around 1.5% fast, more or less. See notes below.] ----------------------------------------------------------------- Post-FOTM cut SBD (shnid=34938): Fix of shnid 3371 Not much of a fix here - I merged the two drums tracks together into one to make set two seamless; for some reason drums had been split across CDs 2 and 3. There's still a cut at 3.5 secs into drums. If anyone has a good AUD patch for this show please take a stab at fixing it. Also, the Scarlet>Fire patch could use some work, it's not pitch-adjusted or cross-faded. Bill Tetzeli 12:08 PM 5/17/2006 Set 1 SBD>Cm>Reel>Dat>CD>EAC>SHN [not used for matrix] Set 2 SBD>Cm>?>Dat>CD>EAC>SHN [sounds like a Cassette Master transfer] Audience Patch: All of Scarlet Begonias and the first 1m20s of Fire on the Mountain DAT>CD Transfer by the usual gang you c around the community CD>EAC>SHN Transfer by Saint Stephen EAC=copy and test, offsets configured wav>shn done with MKW tool. uploaded to etree 4/2/01 - enjoy [This source for set 2 is better sounding than the newer No. 165179 transfer, after a large patch early on. See notes below.] -------------------------------------------------------------------- AUD (shnid=128746): "Mason B. Taylor was a taper from Chicago that recorded concerts by many bands in the Chicagoland area and on Dead tours. He used a Nakamichi 550 with Nakamichi 300 mics with shotgun capsules for most of his earlier recordings. In later years he used Sony D-5 and Sony D-3 cassette recorders with Nakamichi 300 mics. Mason captured spectacular musical moments and loved to share them with his closest friends. In honor of Mason and all the love he put into his recordings we are now able to share these moments with those who can appreciate them most. As the shows get uploaded we would love for you to share your stories about the epic times the music evokes so we can all dial back into that moment when the magic was happening. Thanks to Mason's family and his Chicago and Cleveland friends for opening up Mason's Jar" Recorded By Mason Taylor on a Nakamichi 550 Cassette Deck, on chrome tapes, with Nakamichi microphones. Transferred on a Nak Cr7A. [Circulated 5/18/14] -------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you to Jim Blackwood, Jason Chastain, Steve Gravel, Saint Stephen and Bill Tetzeli for the SBD transfers, to Mason B. Taylor and Joani Walker for recording the show, and to Charlie Miller for Walker's AUD transfer. Matrix by Hunter Seamons using Final Cut Pro (FLAC > AIFF > Final Cut w/EQ > Soundtrack Pro > AIFF CD tracking via Audacity > FLAC16 via xACT w/meta-tagging) August 27, 2023 Notes: Jerry's guitar is mostly absent in the SBD recording during Cold Rain And Snow and Greatest Story Ever Told, fading in and out occasionally, but the matrix mix really helps with this, giving Jerry nearly full volume - a particularly good example of when a blend can work very well and fix issues. Great crowd levels too. Additional notes available at: https://bt.etree.org/details.php?torr...
