It was a successful return to Lowland League action this afternoon (Friday) for the Celtic FC B team, who defeated Hearts B 2-0 at the Excelsior Stadium. Bruno Davidson got the young Hoops off to the best possible start, scoring in the opening few minutes of the game, before Corey Thomson rounded the game off in the dying seconds. Following their midweek Glasgow Cup success over Clyde, the Bhoys would have been looking to continue building momentum. And they made ideal start to do just that, as Davidson scored the opening goal of the game within two minutes. The winger has picked up a knack of being in the right place at the right time inside the penalty area, and he was once again in the ideal area to put Celtic 1-0 ahead at the Excelsior Stadium. A cross from the right by Ben Quinn was missed by Joey Dawson. However, Davidson was waiting to take a touch, before slotting the ball into the back of the net. Just moments later, Davidson could have scored his and Celtic’s second. Finding himself in space as he entered the penalty area, he took his time to compose himself. However, Hearts goalkeeper, Harry Stone, got down well to tip the ball wide. Unfortunately for Davidson, that would be his final action of the half, after he was forced off through injury, being replaced by Thomson. After a frantic start to the opening 45 minutes, the game began to settle down a little. Celtic continued to dominate possession, as they probed for a second goal, but tame efforts from Matthew Anderson and Ben Summers didn’t trouble the Hearts goalkeeper. Just as the Hoops had done in the first half, Hearts came out fast in the second, creating chances to try and level up the scoring. Josh Clarke produced a strong save with his leg, bouncing the ball over the bar, to make sure Celtic maintained their lead. Celtic reacted well to the early second-half pressure though, regaining composure and keeping possession well. Dawson came close to scoring, as the young Celts pressed the visitors high up the pitch from a goal-kick. The Englishman nicked the ball off the visitors’ defence, but the Hearts goalkeeper was out quickly to smother his effort. As the game headed into the latter stages, Celtic wrapped up all three points as Thomson scored the all-important second goal. The midfielder showed great determination to run in at the back post, and tap the ball home from close range, securing all three points on the return to league action.
