Gargoyle's Quest (Nintendo GameBoy) - Full Game

Gargoyle's Quest is a fun mix of platforming and rpg elements, though, the rpg part is limited to an overhead view map and some stats that increase as you progress. You are Firebrand, a gargoyle, but not just any gargoyle. You are the evildoer from Ghouls 'n Ghosts who, this time, has to save his realm from some other creatures that want to destroy it. They are creatively named "Destroyers". The dominant and most interesting part are the platforming or "action" stages where you jump, fly and spit fire in a side scrolling view. Between those stages you move around on a map view with random encounters that have no purpose other than a time sink. Also, this game is really short. Sure, it is on a portable console, but it's also really easy - and has a password system too. But it was really fun to play and I particularly liked the climbing and flying around. The graphics are nice too. I like the little details in the background, but other than that there is not much to say about it. The sound is great! Yea, it's 8-bit sound that makes your ears bleed, but the themes are interesting and don't get boring quickly. It's a classic on the GameBoy that is just lacking a bit more depth that you would expect of an action/rpg hybrid.
