Extrema Ratio T4000C Combat Compact Knife Field Test and Review

Extrema Ratio's T4000C Combat compact knife, field tested over several days of camping.on and near the coast. "T" is for Tanto, 4000 is the series number in the evolution from Extrema's 3000 series of knives, and "C" is of course for Compact. First impressions, V comfortable in my ungloved hand. This is a big plus as many compact type backup knives simple are just ridiculously too small and the last thing you want is to be fumbling with gripping a "backup knife" in a situation. Premium N690 Austrian stainless alloy steel is used like in most of Extrema Ratio's knives. The blade profile of the T4000C is all Japanese; a slight convex curvature to the main part of the blade and a curving tip, perfect for penetration of materials and cutting tasks. Don't worry, it's strong despite a tang thickness of 6mm tapering to about 4mm on the thickest part of the spine. A blood groove on both sides helps to keep the overall knife weight down too. Extrema Ratio's T4000C comes with a fully Molle compatible nylon sheath with hard plastic inserts to protect the sheath. Insertion and removal of the knife is silent. The total carry weight is approximately 9.8 Oz Vs slightly over 1lb comparing it to the RAOII also from Extrema Ratio and reviewed earlier this year. So that's 270gm for the T4000C and about 502gm for the RAOII (all weights include sheaths). The small size of the T4000C allows easy carry on the waist without interference from entering and exiting a vehicle. I cut up both softwoods and semi hardwoods, all seasoned from stuff washed up on the shore; collected wild mushrooms; cut up raw and cooked meat, prepared timber for fires (batoning) and made forks to eat with from seasoned Hazel (my rabbit snares- but no forks so had to sacrifice something LOL!). A small compact combat knife, Extrema Ratio's T4000C, which can easily be relegated to civilian duties if need be, such as seen here. Highly recommended.
