India being the largest producer of cinema in the world; from Bollywood and Tollywood to regional cinema, gazillion songs & music videos are published every year. With that trend, it's kind of difficult for international artists to make their mark in this country because of our already rich and diverse choice of entertainment among us. You have to be extra ordinary in order to not just be relevant, but also to be known and revered. Michael Jackson wasn't just a great artist, but a public figure that Indians fell in love with after seeing him perform for the first time. Even the remotest of villages in India have known about his talent way before the digital era. He didn't need to have played several instruments or have a gazillion background dancers to make a performance of top notch. Michael Jackson wasn't a 'generic' performer, rather an innovator who spent his entire life bettering the art of music & dance. He wrote majority of his songs, invented a whole different genre of dance, created a sense of fashion, innovated the music videos, brought notice to social causes, revolutionized the music industry & saved it from recession, not for public to put him on the same pedestal as that of other artists. And no, it's not a sneer to other artists but the reality. Comparing Michael Jackson to other artists is an insult to his talent owing to what he has achieved in his lifetime is beyond comprehension. Hopefully now the Michael Jackson vs 'XYZ' debate can be put to rest. Michael Jackson was, IS & forever will be the Greatest of All Time. Period. From time to time, Indian artists and us, as the audience have made sure to pay homage to the great talent and human being that he was, which continues to this day.
