We, the Bengali Christian North Carolinian family celebrated Bengali Mass for feast day of St. John the Baptist and St. Anthony Padua by Rev. Bishop Shorot Francis Gomes from Bangladesh. The mass celebrated on 24th June, 2024. St. John the Baptist’s birthday is celebrated on June 24. He is one of only three people in history — after Jesus and Mary — whose birth is honored in the Church’s liturgy. This day is a solemnity, the highest form of Catholic feast day, and is sometimes referred to as “summer Christmas.” St. John the Baptist played a crucial role as the forerunner of Christ, pointing out the Lamb of redemption and baptizing Jesus Himself. His feast day also has cosmic connections, as it falls close to the summer solstice, symbolizing the fulfillment of the prophecy that “he must increase; I must decrease.” The Feast of St. Anthony, observed every year on June 13, honors the life and work of St. Anthony of Padua. As a priest, he was revered for his powerful preaching, vast knowledge of scripture, and unwavering love and devotion to the poor and the sick.
