Reading 2102: Thundering Through the Mountains

Throughout the 2022 and 2023 operating seasons, the Reading & Northern operated their iconic Reading T-1 number 2102 on a variety of Iron Horse Ramble and Fall Foliage Excursions. These trips ran between Reading, Pennsylvania and Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. Over the course of the 60-mile journey, the train runs over former Reading Company and former Central Railroad of New Jersey trackage. With no diesel assist and a long train ranging anywhere from 15 to 18 cars in length, these excursions take passengers back in time to the bygone era of steam. A large portion of the excursion traverses the same route 2102 and the other T-1s ran on during many of the Reading Company's Iron Horse Rambles. Equipped with a Reading Hooter and a Reading 6 Chime, complemented by the locomotive's extremely loud exhaust, 2102 put on a fantastic performance and provides passengers and railfans with the opportunity to hear how the T-1s would have sounded in excursion service over 60 years ago.
