I review a Ram 1500 Classic and discuss some pros and cons about the 5.7L hemi engine. I also talk about why these Ram 1500 trucks are a very good value when it comes to buying a new pick up truck. I wanted to just touch on these RAM 1500 classic trucks a little bit because RAM is still selling these trucks brand new on the lot and I find it interesting that RAM is still doing this. the good news is that these trucks are the most affordable pick up truck currently on the market because they are from the older platform. but despite this truck being the best bang for the bucks and the best value on the market, these trucks are still very solid units. I think Ram did a fanstastic job when they originally developed these trucks because yes they are not as flashy as the newest trucks but they still look fantastic and they where well built. Another important thing to discuss is that the drivelines are almost identical to the newer fifth gen ram trucks and so you essentially going to get the exact same truck mechanically as a newer more expensive ram. the 5.7L hemi that comes with these ram classics is a good engine in my opinion, very solid bottom end, makes tons of power and is surprisingly very fuel efficient for a 400hp V8. now there are some cons or downsides to the 5.7 Hemi as it is not perfect. the first major issues with the 5.7 Hemi is the lifter failures or the hemi tick as its become known and I think this issues has been a little overblown because with good oil maintenance and limiting idle time this issues can be pretty avoidable. the other issues with these engine is exhaust manifold studs breaking causing an exhuast leak which sound pretty bad and is annoying. it has no bearing on engine health but it would frustrate most owner I would imagine. Overall if you are not worried about getting the latest and greatest interior or electronic options these are very solid truck with a tried and true platform that has now been around for over 15 years so it is something I would be looking into if I was looking at buying a new truck.
